March 5, 2008

This is a picture of my friend's, Alex, horse named Biarco. He is a Polish Arabian Gelding. I picked this picture because he always makes me happy. This picture illustrates what happens when you tickle his lips. It is almost like he gets a charlie horse in his mouth. I like this picture because of the angle and the fun expression in this picture. I hope to communicate this picture to people for a good laugh.

jesikah maria ross said...: I think you really achieved your goals with this picture: the angle, expression, and pose of the horse do cause me to smile. I really like the composition--giving Biarco a bit of lead room in front of that hilarious lip action and shooting it in such a way that we see the horse's head stretched out toward us but also her (his?) whole body receding into the background. And the lighting is great. Remember how we spoke about your eye going to where the light is? Well the brightest part of the shot is the horse's lips and mouth, your focal point!

What is an understory? The understory is the part of the forest that grows under the tree canopy. It's a shady area made up of a mixture of plants which usually need more light to leaf out and grow.

And that's what our project is about. Shining a light on how a diverse group of rural residents in the forested Sierra foothills of California are creating new paths toward community revitalization.

This blog is about community, collaboration, and change. It's a space to bring together a network of people who are interested in the community renewal efforts of the Blue Mountain towns of West Point, Wilseyville, Glencoe, and Railroad Flat in Calaveras County.

A group of Blue Mountain area youth are using cameras and computers to share their perspectives and showcase local change efforts. We invite you to view their work, give feedback, and share your own stories of community change.
