Creating Community by Sharing Stories of Renewal
Posted by oh snap its tina at 5:48 PM
Welcome to the Up from the UnderStory project blog! Make yourself at home. Click on posts. Share your comments.
What is an understory? The understory is the part of the forest that grows under the tree canopy. It's a shady area made up of a mixture of plants which usually need more light to leaf out and grow.
And that's what our project is about. Shining a light on how a diverse group of rural residents in the forested Sierra foothills of California are creating new paths toward community revitalization.
This blog is about community, collaboration, and change. It's a space to bring together a network of people who are interested in the community renewal efforts of the Blue Mountain towns of West Point, Wilseyville, Glencoe, and Railroad Flat in
A group of Blue Mountain area youth are using cameras and computers to share their perspectives and showcase local change efforts. We invite you to view their work, give feedback, and share your own stories of community change.

she looks like she's really wise, can't wait to learn about her.....
Holly and Rick are great friends even though they are new to the area. Both have become involved in the community and we are all better for it.

I've known Holly Mines for going on three years. She's a virtual powerhouse and one would be hard pressed to find a more concerned, involved and productive community service citizen. She is well versed in the needs of our local communities at both the government and grass roots levels. She is tireless in her efforts to bring people and ideas together. She always seems to "find" the time to participate in any number of community events and provides excellent counsel and support to worthy causes. She is one of those people who never looks for praise but who is most deserving of our gratitude. Like Holly, we should all strive to keep what is important to us in the way of land use and the preservation of the country lifestyle we all love.
